The Doctoral Program in Nanoscience, Materials and Chemical Engineering is proud to announce that Nicolás Catalán, a PhD candidate in our program, has been selected as the local winner of the national science communication contest #HiloTesis – Your PhD Thesis on Social Media, organized by CRUE and the RedDivulga network.
In his winning thread on BlueSky, Nicolás presents his research on the dispersion of respiratory aerosols—a subject with high public health relevance. Using a physical model of the upper respiratory tract, laser technology, and high-speed imaging, he investigates how factors like temperature and sneezing patterns influence how respiratory particles spread in indoor environments.
As local winner, Nicolás will represent the URV in the national final, competing against PhD students from more than 50 universities across Spain. The final will take place in the first half of July, with six €500 prizes to be awarded to the most outstanding threads. All participants will also receive an official certificate recognizing their involvement.
This initiative is supported by the URV’s Science Communication Unit (ComCiència) and the Doctoral School, as part of a nationwide effort to promote clear, accessible, and engaging research communication through social media.
We warmly congratulate Nicolás Catalán and wish him the best of luck in the national final!
