May 6, 2016, 12 p.m. - Surface Engineering methods for conferring flame retardancy to fabrics and foams (Giulio Malucelli)

Fabric/foam flammability is a surface-confined phenomenon: indeed, the fabric/foam surface represents the most critical region, along which the mass and heat transfers, responsible for fuelling the flame, are controlled and exchanged with the surroundings. More specifically, the heat, the fabric/foam surface is exposed to, is transferred to the bulk, from ...

May 13, 2016, 12 p.m. - The added value of the isotope approach to characterise sources and processes controlling the budget of contaminants in the environment (David Widory )

With the two examples of sulphur contamination in urban and rural aerosols and of diffuse pollution of water by pesticides, we will try to demonstrate that the isotope approach inherently provides crucial information about the sources and processes that are controlling the budget of contaminants in our environment. We collected ...

May 20, 2016, 12 p.m. - Polymerase synthesis of base-modified DNA for applications in bioanalysis and chemical biology (Michal Hocek )

Base-modified oligonucleotides and DNA can be efficiently synthesized by polymerase incorporation of modified deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates (dNTPs).[1] The talk will summarize the cross-coupling synthesis of diverse modified dNTPs, methods for polymerase incorporations[2] as well as applications in diagnostics,[3] bioconjugation[4] and chemical biology.[5] See file attached for complete abstract.

May 27, 2016, 12 p.m. - Embedded formulation for Multi-phase flow and its application to fuel cells (Jordi Pons Prats)

Fuels Cells transform energy from hydrogen to electricity. Several issues must be solved to increase its performance and efficiency before reaching the market. One of this issues in the water management, and the accurate knowledge of how water is eliminated while keeping the membrane wet. Numerical simulations are far from ...
